Itu tidak dapat tertipu, karena sesungguhnya Allah mengetahui semua rahasia dan semua yang terkandung di dalam hati, tetapi orang-orang munafik itu —karena kebodohan dan minimnya pengetahuan serta wawasan mereka— akhirnya menduga bahwa perkara mereka adalah seperti yang terlihat oleh manusia dan pemberlakuan hukum-hukum syariat atas diri mereka secara lahiriahnya dan di akhirat pun perkara mereka akan seperti itu juga. وقال الإمام أحمد: حدثنا يزيد, حدثنا المسعودي عن أبي جعفر محمد بن علي, قال: بينما عبيد بن عمير يقص وعنده عبد الله بن عمر, فقال عبيد بن عمير: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "مثل المنافق كالشاة بين ربيضين, إذا أتت هؤلاء نطحتها, وإذا أتت هؤلاء نطحتها", فقال ابن عمير: ليس كذلك, إنما قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم "كشاة بين غنمين", قال: فاحتفظ الشيخ وغضب, فلما رأى ذلك ابن عمر قال: أما إني لو لم أسمعه لم أردد ذلك عليك. قال أبو جعفر: يعني جل ثناؤه بقوله: "مذبذبين"، مرددين.
